The Department of Asian Languages and Literatures in the College of Liberal
Arts at the University of Minnesota is seeking applications for positions to
teach language courses in Japanese. If filled, these positions are for day, or a
combination of day/night courses taught on a semester basis in the College of
Liberal Arts. The academic year appointments would be from August 30, 2004
to May 29, 2005. Occasionally there are one-semester-only appointments, for
which the start dates could be 8/30/04, or another mutually agreed upon date.
Appointments are renewable annually depending on departmental need,
funding and performance.

Responsibilities are to teach assigned language classes/sections under the
supervision of a lead teacher; to keep office hours, prepare course materials,
prepare and grade exams and participate in program governance as
appropriate.

Required qualifications: B.A., or foreign equivalent with M.A. or Ph.D.
preferred in Chinese, Japanese, Korean or related area. Near-native fluency
in Japanese. Strong English language communication skills and university-
level teaching experience in Japanese. Candidate must have excellent verbal
and written communication skills. Applicants holding the Ph.D. would be hired
at the level of Lecturer; applicants with the B.A. and M.A. would be hired as
Teaching Specialists.
