Increasingly, the children want to speak English, the language they must learn to succeed. But Spanish is the language they must not lose. That imperative fueled a program started by two instructors at Carnegie Mellon University four years ago. "Circulo Juvenil," or Circle of Youth, brings children together to learn new skills while providing an outlet for peer-group expression in Spanish. Each semester, the instructors establish a theme around which the children write, take photographs, blog, make videos, play-act, play games and solve problems, all in Spanish.
