Central Washington University Position Announcement

Two exciting recruiter positions are available at Central Washington
University in Yakima. Make a difference in the lives of migrant and
seasonal farm workers! Recruit prospective students into programs that help further their education. These positions offer lots of opportunity for travel and interaction with diverse populations and community organizations. Both the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) and College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) are grant-funded programs of the Office of Migrant Education (OME) within the U.S. Department of Education.
Recruiters are responsible for enrolling eligible students and implementing the grant s goals and objectives in compliance with the regulations and policies of Central Washington University and OME.

High School Equivalency Program (HEP)

Job Summary: The High School Equivalency Program provides migrant and
seasonal farm workers with academic instruction and support services that will enable them to obtain their General Education Diplomas (GEDs). The recruiter directly contacts farm workers to find and recruit eligible participants. In addition, the recruiter assists in planning and implementing a campaign (including direct marketing, advertising, networking with other agencies, and working as a team member with other recruiters and staff) to assist in recruiting eligible students.

College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP)

Job Summary: CAMP is designed for first-year college students from migrant and seasonal farm working families. CAMP offers pre-college transition and first-year support services to help students develop the skills they need to succeed in college and graduate. The recruiter is responsible for the identification and enrollment of eligible students into the CAMP program and to Central Washington University as well as the implementation of a public relations campaign for CAMP. The recruiter will network with secondary schools, migrant education programs, Educational Opportunity
Centers, High School Equivalency Programs, employers, community and
non-profit organizations. Represent CAMP and CWU to prospective students and the general public.

Required Qualifications: Forty-five (45) earned credits from
college/university. Ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish fluently. Experience with, and commitment to serving, migrant/seasonal farm workers. Strong interpersonal, writing, speaking and computing skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or higher. Experience in
recruitment, direct marketing, advertising and/or public relations.
Familiarity with Central Washington communities. Appointment: This is a full-time, grant funded (100%), 12-month appointment exempt from Washington State Civil Service Law.

Annual Salary: $32,000
Starting Date: Positions are currently vacant. Starting date is
negotiable but no later than May 16, 2004.
Screening Date: Application review will begin March 15, 2004, and continue until position is filled.
