Dear Colleagues,

Clemson University, the Department of Languages, and the East
Asian Studies Program are pleased to sponsor the Nineteenth
Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Association of Teachers of
Japanese on March 13 - 14, 2004.

We will have some stimulating panels devoted to issues of:
culture, linguistics, business Japanese, pedagogy, and using
technology in the classroom.

Our keynote address, "Cognitive Learning and Language
Teaching," will be delivered by Professor Yasuhiko Tohsaku
from the University of California at San Diego. On Sunday
morning, a special workshop will take place, devoted
to bilingual education and heritage language education issues.
Professor Kazuko Nakajima, of Nagoya University for Foreign
Studies, and Professor Tohsaku will enrich this workshop by
sharing their professional insights.
Professor Nakajima will deliver a speech on Sunday entitled:
"Bilingual Education: What parents and teachers can do for their
children."

We have reserved 40 rooms at the Martin Inn that is linked to the
Madren Center where our meeting will take place, however each
person must make their own reservations. Please mention that
you are with the Annual Meeting of SEATJ (the Southeastern
Association of Teachers of Japanese). The rate
per evening is $89.00.

The Martin Inn has agreed to hold these rooms for us until
February 12, 2004.
After that date, rooms may still be available at the special rate
depending on vacancies.
