Boston University Conference on Language Development
November 5th – 7th, 2010
The Boston University Conference on Language Development (BUCLD) has become one of the best known conferences on language development in the world; presentation topics range from theoretical approaches to language acquisition, cross-cultural language development, second language development, language disorders, and literacy development. Each year, close to 500 abstracts are submitted to the conference, from which almost 87 papers and 66 posters are chosen for presentation. Internationally renowned researchers also give keynote and plenary addresses, as well as a lunch symposium on a topic of current interest. This year, Noam Chomsky and Charles Gallistel of Rutgers will speak on Sunday at the Society for Language and Development 7th Annual Symposium. The keynote speaker will be Rachel Mayberry of the University of California at San Diego. The plenary speaker will be William Snyder of the University of Connecticut. The lunch symposium topic will be “The acquisition of number words: Integrating formal and developmental perspectives,” with the following speakers: Susan Carey of Harvard, Justin Halberda of Johns Hopkins University, Jeff Lidz of the University of Maryland, and Julien Musolino of Rutgers University.
