TitleGraduate TESOL Courses for Content Area Teachers

New York City Teachers of Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and ELA Grades 6 – 12 (Public, Private, & Charter School Teachers) are invited by the New York City Department of Education Office of English Language Learners (ELLs) and the Touro College Lander Center for Educational Research to participate in the LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT IN THE CONTEXT OF THE DISCIPLINES PROGRAM (LDCD)

· Free tuition for three graduate TESOL courses at Touro College (nine credits)
1. Trends and Current Issues in Second Language Acquisition
2. Teaching Reading and Writing for Second Language Learners
3. Second Language Learners and the Content Areas
· Sponsorship to one QTEL Institute
· Opportunity to participate in up to 36 additional hours of free TESOL-related professional development through seminars and study groups – applicable to New York State’s requirement of 175 hours per five years for certification
· Opportunity to apply to Touro College’s Master’s degree program in TESOL

Participants in the LDCD Program must complete all three courses within two years. Courses are particularly beneficial when taken by cohorts of teachers from the same school. Up to 30 teachers will be accepted into the LDCD Program for Fall 2010. Course 1, Trends and Current Issues in Second Language Acquisition, has two sections being offered: one on Monday evenings and one on Thursday evenings. These courses are held at 50 West 23rd Street, New York, NY.

Participants do not pay tuition, but do pay a registration fee of $100 per semester.
