| Body | NCELA Webinar - Considerations for Meaningful Classroom Assessment of ELs in Math and Science Date: Friday, August 20, 2010 Time: 3:00PM - 4:00 PM EDT Presenters: Dr. Rebecca Kopriva is a Senior Scientist at the Wisconsin Center for Educational Research (WCER) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is also the author of the 2008 book Improving Testing for English Language Learners: A Comprehensive Approach to Designing, Building, Implementing, and Interpreting Academic Tests, and the lead designer of the ONPAR assessments. Description: This webinar will focus on how teachers might collect information in their classrooms about how students who are English Learners (ELs) think, understand, and develop skills in mathematics, science, and other academic content areas. Dr. Kopriva will also focus on some considerations that are key to helping content area teachers understand how to meaningfully collect accurate information about what ELs know, particularly when it comes to effectively measuring their higher order thinking skills. Issues and methods for designing and developing effective assessment activities for ELs will be outlined. Questions Please? Participants should submit questions prior to the webinar to facilitate comprehensive responses. Questions pertaining to the webinar should be sent to Kathia Flemens at kflemens@gwu.edu.
