The German Embassy in Washington, in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut and the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG), has been presenting the Teacher of Excellence Award since 2008. As part of the Foreign Office campaign “German – Language of Ideas,” three outstanding German teachers will be honored with the Teacher of Excellence Award this year.

Along with the recognition, the teachers will receive a two-week continuing education course in Germany, made available and conducted by the Goethe-Institut. During their stay in Germany, the award recipients will re-experience Germany and gain fresh insights into instructional methodology, German studies, and language training. They will also be invited to receive their awards at the AATG banquet at the next American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) annual convention and world languages expo in Boston (November 19-20, 2010).

Nominations for the competition are being accepted by the AATG until June 30, 2010. Those eligible to submit nominations are the AATG regional chapters, German language consultants, Goethe-Instituts, and the German Consulates in the United States. Candidates cannot have already been promoted through other programs.
