Language schools win $1 million grant
High school to join mix in Columbus

The Columbus school district has won a $1 million federal grant to help open a new high school and combine its two language-immersion schools, which serve kindergartners through eighth-graders, in one building.

The money from the federal Foreign Language Assistance Program will be used to train teachers, develop curriculum and tests, and add Chinese courses, said Diane Ging, the district's director of special projects. The three-year grant is awarded to school districts to start or expand innovative language programs.
