Washington state public schools join French program
April 27, 2010

Along with a new agreement with a Chinese organization to promote Chinese language and culture, Washington state on Tuesday announced a partnership with the Academie de Nantes, which has about 3,600 schools in France.

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction said the partnership will help students from France and Washington learn about each others' languages, histories and culture.

Nantes is about 200 miles southwest of Paris.

On Monday, Gov. Chris Gregoire, along with Seattle Public Schools and the University of Washington, signed a memorandum of understanding with Hanban, a Chinese organization affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education.
