The local elementary school is a new member of the International Spanish Academies — a partnership of Spanish-language immersion campuses in North America sponsored by the Ministry of Education of Spain. NVLA’s dual immersion program leans on a half native English-speaking, and half native Spanish-speaking student body to help all its students learn a second language. When NVLA earned its title, one benefit came in the form of a new staff member at the school. Mar Gamez, a former journalist, is a culture and language assistant hailing from Spain.
