| Body | Director of Education/Principal A highly motivated group of parents living in the San Francisco East Bay Area is seeking an educational entrepreneur interested in helping us create an academically rigorous college preparatory Mandarin immersion K-8 school destined to open in the fall of 2011 with a Kindergarten and a 1st grade class. This is an opportunity to participate in the creation of a 21st century dual immersion school in a dynamic, culturally diverse part of the Bay Area that is without any Mandarin immersion K-8 educational opportunities to date. Our goal is to incorporate international best practices and innovative educational techniques to foster the development of inquisitive, culturally aware and critically thinking students. Position Description The educator will initially work in tandem with the founding families to not only draft the Mandarin immersion curriculum but to also help in the administrative process leading up to the opening of the school. Later once the school is open, the educator would remain to serve as the Director of Education/Principal of the immersion school. Qualification Requirements Dedicated to creating a dynamic, challenging, and comprehensive academic program Native-like fluency in speaking, reading and writing Mandarin Chinese Knowledge of Chinese customs and culture Be knowledgeable of current immersion teaching methodologies, content, strategies and research Be knowledgeable of the pedagogy for teaching Mandarin to non-native as well as native Mandarin-speaking students Be knowledgeable of evaluation and assessment of student progress Be able to thrive in the excitement and uncertainty surrounding an educational startup Ability to be a cooperative, visionary member of the startup team Legal authorization to work in the United States Professional teaching experience in bilingual, immersion or foreign language classroom as well as prior educational leadership experience is preferred Interested applicants please submit a cover letter and resume to eastbayimmersion@gmail.com.
