Description

The Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) improves educational results for children, youth, and adults by providing research and development assistance in delivering equitable, high-quality educational programs. NWREL is a private, nonprofit corporation which has served the Northwest region since 1966 as its Regional Educational Laboratory under contract with the U. S. Department of Education, as well as other federal, state, and local agencies and organizations. This position is in the Equity Center, which is part of the Center for School, Family, and Community.

Duties

This position will develop and conduct technical assistance to local, state and regional public school educators on effective research based strategies to eliminate disparities in academic achievement for students related to race, gender, and national origin.

- Assist states, districts, and schools in implementing components of the No Child Left Behind Act
- Assist schools in implementing effective strategies to close the
achievement gap, increase parent involvement, improve academic and language proficiencies of English Language Learners, and to create safe and equitable schools
- Assist in the development of program and center plans, proposals, reports and resources
- Intake client requests for service to develop and arrange appropriate technical assistance or workshops
- Conduct local, state and regional training to educate school employees, parents and community members
- Conduct technical assistance to local education agencies to build
capacity within their agencies
- Research and synthesize information and teaching strategies to create materials for workshops and technical assistance efforts
- Plan training agendas to facilitate the delivery of quality service
- Participate as a team member with other department counterparts; assist with preparing and evaluating reports and proposals to produce quality products and data collection
- Maintain records of technical assistance, training and other activities to compile accurate reports of delivered services
- Collaborate with other Laboratory departments to provide information
regarding equitable education
- Travel extensively throughout the western United States and Pacific
Islands (approximately 40% travel)

Qualifications

Required:
- Thorough understanding of a field in education related to national
origin, gender or race equity
- Proficiency in the application and use of spreadsheet, database and word processing software
- Minimum of two to three years experience developing and providing
professional development activities
- Extensive experience (minimum five years) in classroom teaching
- Ability to work cooperatively and independently with a diverse range of professionals
- High competence in written and verbal communication skills including
diplomacy
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple, simultaneous projects

Desired/Preferred:
- Advanced degree in education
- Bilingual speaking and writing ability
- Knowledge of the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol model
- Knowledge of the No Child Left Behind Act and school improvement strategies
