Primary Duties and Responsibilities of Position

Will lead and coordinate the expansion of Heritage Language programs in CPS. Will provide support for all heritage language teachers and coordinate sustained and rigorous teacher professional development activities throughout the year that align to ISBE Learning Standards for Foreign Language and meet the objectives of the expanded Heritage Language program. The Coordinator will work in collaboration with internal and external partners and organizations to provide additional resources to teachers and students.

Principal Accountabilities
• Develop and implement a plan for the expansion of the Heritage Language program over the next 3-5 years beginning with Heritage Spanish.
• Develop and implement a PD calendar for all heritage language teachers and promote citywide PD;
• Assist in the development of curriculum for the heritage language programs;
• Assist in the development of relationships with external partners, the education & cultural attaches of the various consular offices in Chicago and the Chicago International Sister Cities Program;
• Maintain regular communication with other OLCE units, Office of High School Programs, Office of Academic Enhancement and other relevant offices within CPS to ensure continuity of Heritage Language policies and course offerings/descriptions throughout the system; and
• Assist teachers and administrators in expanding and maintaining the Heritage Language programs.

Qualifications Skills:
• Bilingual, Spanish/English preferred
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook, familiarity with Excel, Power Point and web-design
• Able to work as team member
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills

Type of Education Required:
• Master’s Degree in Educational Administration (Type 75) preferable
• Teaching Certification with endorsement in a world language

Type of Experience and Number of Years:
• Teaching in a world language program – minimum of 5 years
• Project coordination experience – minimum of 3 years
